Well I Didn’t Know THAT About Coffee

Coffee can kill you! Experts have determined that if you can drink up to 100 cups in quick succession it could trigger a fatal heart attack or some sort of caffeine related seizure. Although this would be very difficult to achieve as the actual amount of time it would take to drink 100 cups of coffee would only be enough time for that much caffeine to keep you awake for a long time.

A coffee a day keeps the doctor away! Due to the variety of components in coffee, including a selection of anti-oxidants, the drink can be beneficial to your body, most importantly the digestive system. It’s about the same amount as you might find in a cup of tea, a tin of beans or a bananas but drinking too much will obviously have opposite effects.

Coffee can be a pain killer! Studies have shown that a small influx of caffeine can stimulate the release of endorphins which can block the receptors of pain; this was shown to work in muscular pain from exercise but not in cases of inflicted pain.

Decaf has Caffeine in it! Although only a small amount, decaf coffee actually contains caffeine. However you would have to drink up to 10 cups to get the amount in one cup of regular coffee.

You can lose weight with coffee! Despite containing stimulants and other ingredients, coffee does not actually contain any calories. This bears no relevance on what you add to coffee so don’t assume you will keep your figure if you fill up on double-grande-latte-mocha-chinos.

Coffee gives you perfect skin! Because of the beneficial anti-oxidants in coffee, some experts claim it is also good for your skin. The Japanese are known to cleanse in fermented pineapple pulp mixed with coffee beans even though there is no significant evidence to prove any of this.

Three Styles Of Project Management

The majority of people involved in projects are aware that project plays a big part in a project’s success, but not so many are aware of the many types of project management that you can adopt for your particular project. Here I give a beginners guide to the three main methodologies, so you have an overview and can research any that are of interest.

Traditional

Traditional project management takes a phased approach, with a particular sequence of steps being carried out which lead to the completed project. There are usually five components to a project when this methodology is adopted and they are initiation, design, creation, monitoring and closing, although not every project will go through every stage and many projects will require additional stages, such as pre planning or concept designs. When related to software development traditional project management is often referred to the waterfall mode.

Critical Chain Project Management

The critical chain methodology puts more emphasis on the resources needed to complete a project as a whole and the tasks that make up the project, and applies the Theory of Constraints to project management. Critical chain project management varies from traditional in the way any uncertainty is managed. In traditional PM uncertainty is managed by over-estimating the time something takes, starting tasks as soon as possible and multi tasking, whereas in the critical chain model managing uncertainty is achieved by using averages to estimate durations, scheduling backwards from the required completion date and using buffers to allow room for movement and control the project plan.

Extreme Project Management

Extreme project management is a style often employed in cases of very complex or uncertain projects. It differs widely from traditional project management in that it has a much more elastic approach and is more concerned with the human elements of the project. This humanistic approach puts more emphasis on managing the interactions between the humans involved rather than on precise scheduling and formal timescales.

Whether you choose one of these styles or another, your projects efficiency can be improved by using project management software,  as issues are flagged automatically, meaning you can take action more quickly.

The Great PPI Scam

Payment Protection Insurance is supposed to help consumers feel secure that if something unplanned happens they are covered for repaying their debts, but more and more people are feeling like it is one big con. It has been sold to people who are unaware, borrowers who cant afford it and even people who want it but don’t know they are ineligible.

Most banks cunningly tag on PPI to any loan or credit and bank employees are often forced to sell useless policies in order to keep their jobs. The theory of PPI is great for borrowers, particularly in the recent economic hard times, where people are losing their jobs left right and centre, it should mean that 3 months unemployed doesn’t mean going hungry because of mortgage repayments. But the reality is quite the opposite; there have been almost no cases where PPI has actually helped someone struggling to make repayments.

Luckily, lenders who have illegally sold PPI can be held accountable by the general consumer. There are thousands of lawyers who focus on financial law and some even specify in PPI reclaiming.

The majority of consumers don’t fully understand the variety of situations in which being sold PPI is illegal, for example; if you were unemployed, self-employed or simply over 65, your PPI payments were invalid and you can recover all the money. If you were not explained the terms of payment, interest and cancellation and if you were informed you could only purchase PPI from your lender, ask for it back!

Although claiming back your PPI is your own responsibility, the Financial Services Authority and the Competition Commission have taken a stance against the dodgy tactics of the industry. They are even slapping fines on any organisation deemed to have broken laws with PPI selling.

In 2009 a watchdog ruled that companies are now required to accurately sell PPI to customers ensuring they are not overpriced, customers can chose to opt out at any time and they are completely covered.

If you think you have been miss sold PPI, then see if Dons LLP can help you with your PPI claim.

Anyone who works out at the gym knows that drinking protein shakes after your workout is essential for building muscle and recovery. But did you know that consuming a shake mid way through your workout may be even more beneficial? MensFitness reported that by drinking a shake half way through the workout you will get nutrients into your muscles faster which will in turn speed up recovery time and still provide muscle growth.
When buying a protein shake be on the lookout for these five main ingredients:
Protein Powder

Check the whey protein content and make sure it’s from a good quality reputable brand as this is the main ingredient needed for muscle growth.
Waxy Maize

Waxy Maize is a carbohydrate that is easily digested by the body and into the bloodstream.
Creatine

Creatine can help drastically reduce recovery time as well as doing its part to increase muscle size and the rate of muscle growth.
BCAAs

These branched chain amino acids are an important part of a balanced diet and help the body to absorb proteins as well as support muscle growth and in turn increase your endurance.
Glutamine

By supplementing with glutamine you can actually increase your bodies immunity as well as other benefits such as muscle growth and as its the bodies most abundant amino acid supplementing is a good idea.
How much?

Based on a male weighing between 175-210 lbs:

Protein Powder = 30-40 grams

Waxy Maize = 60-80 grams

Creatine = 5-10 grams

BCAAs = 6 or more grams

Glutamine = 8 or more grams

Consuming Supplements

If you have bought a supplement that has all of the above then you simply mix with water in a shaker and drink it half way through your routine and aim to finish it off just after your workout.

Elaine McGonigle, director of the New Pyjamas Campaign for Edinburgh’s Sick Children’s Hospital. McGonigle and her team are being investigated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator after a 500,000 spent on the campaign only yielded 60,000 in return. 10 of the charity’s staff have undergone a formal period of consultation regarding their future as McGonigle holds “lengthy” meetings with the officials. Sources close to Ms McGonigle have said she is carrying a “dossier” of paperwork in a bid to prove she has is innocent and that “she has clearly been preparing for this and is 100% confident in her own case”

They continued, “She feels her paper trail is absolutely watertight and that all her documents will show no wrongdoing on her part”

The Director of the campaign stated “I am required, under my professional code of conduct and practise, to ensure that I advise on, and act in accordance with, those laws and regulations attendant to charitable activity in Scotland”

She had made reference to claims regarding her past employment and allegations of a ’secret job’ and denied any bogus activity on her behalf and that the references provided for her current post were “factual, exemplary and thoroughly checked” at the time of her appointment to the post.

Chairman of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation stated that “We want to thank the staff who worked on the New Pyjamas campaign for their dedication, effort and hard work. However, it became clear to the trustees that the New Pyjamas campaign would not, under its current structure, meet the targets initially set out.”

Dr Charles Winstanley, Chairman of NHS Lothian stated: “We have no intention, to strip the SKFF of its independence and are working with them to find the best solution for raising funds for our new hospital”

A university student at Oxbridge has sparked media interest with her racy online diary in which she documents her sexual exploits at an Oxbridge college. She describes herself as “fairly attractive and highly intelligent” and “Currently shagging my way through the half-term hump”. The anonymous blogger has a blog and twitter account in which she posts regular updates to nearly 2000 followers.

She keeps her real identity a closely guarded secret but denies rumours she is a prostitute, man or not even a student. She writes about her sexual adventures and while only referring to her partners with quirky descriptions she offers insight into some of their own personal sexual habits.

Her blog contains stories of the penis sizes of different nationalities she has slept with and a comprehensive dissection of the Oxbridge sex ethic. The self proclaimed “closet nympho” reveals she has “absolutely no intention of revealing my identity, mostly because in some cases that it would involve revealing other people’s identity”.

Her first blog explains how the Oxbridge education system applies such pressure that most students don’t have the time to fulfil a relationship and resort to “drowning their sorrows in a case of VK and in the arms of a stranger”.

Her stories have had an unforgiving comparison to ‘Diary of a London Call Girl’ the online memoirs of professional escort ‘Belle de Jour’. The blogs were turned into a novel and later a television series staring Billie Piper. Belle later revealed herself as Dr Brooke Magnanti, a specialist in informatics, epidemiology and forensic science who worked as a £300 an hour escort while finishing her doctorate at Sheffield University.
